‘The money’s there’: Liverpool are ready to sign £50m player in January if they get the chance – journalist

Barring a serious collapse, Liverpool will head into the January transfer window as the Premier League table-toppers.

The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League right now, but, as Liverpool ought to know better than anyone else, they can’t rest on their laurels.

Luckily, January is the perfect time to add that extra spark to your squad, and the Reds may be on the lookout for new signings.

Takefusa Kubo has recently been linked to Liverpool, while, speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Joe Rimmer has suggested that Liverpool will jump at the chance to sign Martin Zubimendi if the opportunity presents itself.

Liverpool may try to sign Martin Zubimendi

The journalist discussed the idea of Liverpool moving for Zubimendi again.

Rimmer says that Liverpool will do this deal if the chance arises, claiming that the money is there to do a deal.

Zubimendi has a £50m release clause in his contract.

Liverpool tried to sign Zubimendi in the summer, but, ultimately, the midfielder decided to stay at Real Sociedad.

“Liverpool probably don’t seem like the club who would cut their nose off to spite their face. We seem very sort of cold, and we’ve seen it with the contracts and we’re very business oriented with these big decisions, so could that (Zubimendi) be back on the cards?” Rimmer asked.

“I think if there’s any chance that they can go and get Zubimendi in January, I think they will do it.

“The money’s there, we know the money’s there, don’t we?”

“I think the club would do it. I think they’re not the club to cut the nose off, to spite their face.

“You know, I remember at the time, I’m sure you wrote at the time that it was all done, you know, very amicable, the calls of Richard Hughes. I think he called him personally, didn’t he? I remember at the time, so I just could imagine that if his agent gets on to Liverpool and says, you know what, he is available. They would do that and do that quite quickly.”

How does Martin Zubimendi feel about leaving Real Sociedad?

Liverpool might go fo Zubimendi in January, but the Reds have been here before.

Indeed, Zubimendi knocked Liverpool back in the summer, and according to Steve Kay, Zubimendi doesn’t care about signing for a big club.

According to people I’ve been talking to he’s a strange man, he’s a strange character,” Kay said.

“He’s someone who doesn’t care about playing for teams like Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. He’s happy to play where he is, finish fourth, fifth or sixth. He loves where he lives and that’s him. The Matt Le Tissier of La Liga I suppose,” Kay said.

However, according to David Ornstein, Zubimendi’s stance has changed recently.

“Some people think that his loyalty to La Real will continue to keep him forever, but increasingly in the chats I’ve had, there is an expectation now that the summer, he is more ready in his head to move than before they’ve had more time to plan,” Ornstein said.

Crucially though, Ornstein says that would be one for the summer, so Liverpool’s hopes of bolstering their squad with the addition of Zubimendi in January may have already been dashed.

The January window may be crucial in deciding how the Premier League title race pans out, and Liverpool may need one or two bodies through the door just to get them over the line.
