Ange Postecoglou has come under immense pressure to keep his job at Tottenham Hotspur, as yet another Premier League defeat kept his side in 11th place in the standings.
The North London side blew a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 at the hands of bitter rivals Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. The defeat at the weekend means they have registered just one win in their last games across all competitions.
Ange Postecoglou’s side enjoyed the 4-0 smashing of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium a few weeks ago, but things have not been great at all since. The levels of inconsistency are really starting to see the top four pull away from the Lilywhites this season.

While Postecoglou has to shoulder a lot of blame for the poor results in recent weeks, one cannot deny the fact that there have been so many mistakes and schoolboy errors committed by the players that the gaffer is powerless to control. And a couple of those came during the recent defeat to Chelsea.
With Spurs winning 2-1 against the Blues, Yves Bissouma crazily wiped out Moises Caicedo in the box and conceded a penalty in the second half. Cole Palmer stepped up and slotted it calmly to make it 2-2 before Enzo Fernandez made it 3-2 and Palmer extended the lead by scoring a cheeky Panenka penalty after being nibbled on the heels by Pape Matar Sarr.
BBC commentator Gary Lineker blasted both Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr for their stupid decision-making in the London derby against Enzo Maresca’s side, and it now looks like Spurs are planning to get rid of one of them next year.
According to Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold, Tottenham could offload Bissouma if they receive a tempting offer. He insists the midfielder has struggled to cement his place in the starting XI since Big Ange’s arrival in 2023, and his exit could soon be on the cards.
“I just kind of get this feeling that Spurs, if there was a decent bid for Bissouma next summer, at this point, I think they would take it,” Alasdair Gold told on his YouTube channel.
“I think they would probably bite someone’s hand off, because he’s only started 44 Premier League matches out of the 91 he’s been available for, or would have been available potential, 91 in the three seasons since he started at the club, since he arrived for £30 million from Brighton, which looked like such a snip at the time.”

Bissouma continued his theme of bad decisions in the defeat to Chelsea. It was his tackle on Caicedo in the box—a crucial moment that flipped the momentum in the Blues’ favour with Palmer scoring the resultant penalty. To double the blow, it was the Mali international’s fifth yellow card of the season, which means he will miss the game at Southampton on Sunday.
The African took to social media to apologize to his teammates and the fans for his moment of madness. The midfielder has seen his game time increase of late, with Rodrigo Bentancur still serving his seven-match domestic ban, and has started in Tottenham’s last four Premier League games.

At 28, Bissouma should be one of the leaders in the dressing room, but unfortunately, he isn’t. The Issia-born star will have just 12 months left on his deal in 2025, and following his inconsistent decisions both on and off the pitch, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club decides to part ways with him at the end of the season. Given his performance against Chelsea, it will not be difficult to see why.
