Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares has been one of the most exciting players in Serie A this season, and this is also great news for his parent club Arsenal thanks to a contractual clause.
The Background
The Portuguese signed for the Italian capital side on loan with an obligation to buy last summer. The Biancocelesti will be more than happy to fulfill this ‘obligation’ and buy the player outright, especially after cementing himself as one of the most explosive full-backs in Europe. The 24-year-old is even leading the league’s assist charts having created eight goals already.
Arsenal & Lazio Agreement on Nuno Tavares Includes Sell-n Fee
But while Arsenal are bound to lose Tavares on a permanent basis at the end of the season, the player’s exploits at the Stadio Olimpico could also benefit them, as their agreement with Lazio includes a 40% sell-on fee, explains Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi). The Gunners had bought the player from Benfica in 2021 for circa €8 million.
Expected Rise to Stardom?
The Roman newspaper believes that the Gunners were somewhat expecting the Portugal international to explode at one stage, which is why they were keen on inserting a relatively high percentage in the sell-on fee. The report also notes that unlike some of his teammates (Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi), Tavares’ contract with Lazio doesn’t include a release clause, which suggests that the Biancocelesti knew the left-back’s value could eventually soar.
