Despite putting on a performance that was far from ideal, Liverpool came away with a 1-0 win against Girona in the UEFA Champions League.
With six wins from as many games in Europe this season, Arne Slot’s side have now booked their place in the Round of 16 with a game to spare.
Girona gave a good account of themselves but eventually fell behind to a Mohamed Salah penalty in the second half after Donny van de Beek was penalised for a foul on Luis Diaz.
There were many talking points from the game but Darwin Nunez took centre stage once again with his performance.
And judging by his comments, Troy Deeney is clearly not a fan of the Liverpool striker.

Starting in attack alongside Diaz and Salah, the Uruguayan striker missed a couple of great chances to score in the first half as his frustrations in front of goal continued in Spain.
Stephen Warnock criticised Nunez for his miss for Liverpool in the first half as he hit the ball straight at Paulo Gazzaniga between the sticks for Girona.
And now, speaking about an incident that occurred moments before that chance – where Nunez failed spectacularly when he tried to head the ball to his teammate – Deeney made a rather blunt claim on the Liverpool striker.

“Darwin Nunez, what are you doing?” he said on talkSPORT commentary.
“He’s headed that with his eyebrow! Every time he goes through one-on-one I don’t think he’s going to score.
“He doesn’t look like he’s going to score, he looks like he’s just hitting it and hoping.”
After the game, Luis Garcia also criticised Nunez as he admitted that the enigmatic striker lacked composure in the final third.
Nunez’s stats this season
It’s been two-and-a-half years since Nunez’s big-money move to Anfield and he has thus far been unable to convince the Liverpool faithful that he’s the right man to lead the line.
He has featured in pretty much every game in recent weeks due to Diogo Jota’s absence, but the underlying numbers from his performance against Girona don’t make for impressive reading.
71 minutes played
16 touches
50% pass completion rate
2 big chances missed
1 shot off target
0 chances created
With Jota now fully fit, it remains to be seen if Nunez keeps his place in the team when Liverpool host Fulham at Anfield on Saturday.
