Liverpool have continued their growing trend of signing exciting young talents from their rivals after completing their latest academy transfer. Lucas Clarke has confirmed that he has joined the Reds from Man City ahead of the transfer window opening at the end of the month.

A left-sided centre-back, the 16-year-old is set to initially link up with Liverpool’s Under-16s after confirming his transfer from the Reds’ Premier League rivals on social media.

Taking to Instagram, the young defender wrote: Delighted to have signed for @liverpoolfc can’t wait to get started #YNWA’, accompanied by a heart emoji and two pictures of the player signing his contract and posing with a Liverpool shirt outside the AXA Training Centre.

Clarke follows in the footsteps of Rio Ngumoha in making the switch to Anfield from a rival Premier League side, after the winger joined the Reds from Chelsea last summer.

In recent years, Liverpool have plucked many highly-rated talents from their domestic rivals off the back of Brexit being implemented and prompting a change in UK transfer rules.

Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo joined the club from Leicester City and West Ham United respectively in the summer of 2023, while Ben Doak joined the club from Celtic in 2022.

The Reds have also snapped up the likes of Kornel Misciur from Hull City, Bobby Clark from Newcastle United, James McConnell from Sunderland, Calum Scanlon from Birmingham City and Kaide Gordon from Derby County, as well as Stefan Bajcetic from Celta Vigo and Trent Kone-Doherty from Derry City, when bolstering their academy ranks in recent years.
