The New Orleans Saints (5-8) notched their fifth victory of 2024 in a dramatic 14-11 win at the New York Giants and return home to close out their season's NFC East slate against the Washington Commanders (8-5).
The Saints and Commanders have met 28 times, with Washington holding a 17-11 advantage in the series. Dating back to 2003, six of the nine contests have been decided by eight points or less, but the last two meetings have been Saints victories by 24 and 11-point margins.
The Saints are two wins behind the first place Buccaneers (7-6) in the NFC South who they play in Week 18 at Raymond James Stadium. The Saints need to win two of their final four games to make it 19 straight seasons with 7+ wins (currently the fourth-longest streak in NFL history).
The Commanders are 8-5 and in seventh place in the NFC playoff picture coming off their Week 14 bye; they won their last game before the bye week vs. the Tennessee Titans 42-19. Washington currently has a one-game lead over the Rams for the final Wild Card spot.
Jayden Daniels will be the first reigning Heisman Trophy winner to return to his college's (LSU) home state in a road NFL game since Robert Griffin III did it with Washington in 2012 at the Dallas Cowboys.
