David McNally has been warned he could face jail

A paramedic formerly employed by Manchester City has admitted to stealing 'at least £75,000-worth of equipment from the Premier League champions.

David McNally, 47, worked as part of the matchday medical team at the Etihad Stadium over a four-year period. He was a member of the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

But during his time with City, McNally was pocketing goods from the Premier League side - and selling it on eBay. Items stolen by McNally included football boots, medical equipment, branded kits and tracksuits.

He made £24,676 from the thefts. And he has now admitted his wrongdoing after appearing at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (December 11), where he pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Steve Woodman, claimed the total value of the goods was around £100,000. But Kirsty Cobey, who was representing the paramedic, claimed the figure was incorrect and those sold online only totalled around £75,000.

"This is clearly quite a breach of trust over a significant period of time," Mr Woodman told magistrates. "The security team said that the items stolen included massage guns, compression pads, eight signed shirts with a value of £8,000 in total, one City banner that was used in the changing rooms in the 2021/22 Champions League campaign, signed by the team.

"They were wondering where it had gone, and it was found at his house. There were also bespoke football boots for players such as Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte."

McNally admitted to stealing valuable memorabilia. That included eight shirts signed by the men's first team - each of which was valued at around £1,000 each. He also admitted to stealing a signed banner and personalised boots made for former City striker Sergio Aguero.

Suspicions were initially aroused when a tracksuit belonging to a women's player went missing in February 2023. CCTV identified McNally as a suspect, with a further investigation finding an eBay account belonging to the paramedic selling the goods.

Police were then informed and a warrant was carried out at his house, where a large quantity of the stolen items were found.

Mitigating, Ms Cobey said McNally was a man of previous good character who ‘worked as a paramedic with no blemishes on his record for over 15 years’. The hearing was eventually adjourned by chair of the bench Matthew Ainsworth, with a pre-sentence report now to be prepared.

McNally was also warned that his case could still be dealt with at the Crown Court and he could face a jail sentence for his offences. McNally will next appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on February 11, 2025.
