Villa News Speaking to Bryan King

Bryan King has urged Aston Villa to sign K.R.C. Genk defender Matte Smets.
The ex-Villa scout believes the centre-back would “jump at the opportunity” to sign for the club, with Unai Emery still in need of some additional defensive cover despite the return to fitness of one player.
As reported by TBR Football [4 December], Villa want Smets, who has helped Genk climb to the top of the Jupiler Pro League this season, with his value rising to £6.2million [Birmingham Live, 6 December].
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks the club must make the move happen with his cost so low in the market.
“If that is all he costs, Villa must buy him,” King said.
“For that kind of money, and a player of that kind of potential, go and sign him. Villa need to address their defensive depth as well. If Smetts is available, I’m sure that he would jump at the opportunity.
