Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi on Monday shared an interesting nugget in a story about Mayo’s future.

“Recently, however, I’ve gotten some pushback from league sources for reporting that Jonathan Kraft is as onboard with Mayo as his father,” Giardi wrote.

“While Robert might have initially been the one making calls around the league, I’m told that Jonathan has been the driving force since then; if you’ll recall, there’s been some different reporting on the purpose of those calls,” Giardi continued.

Giardi referenced last month’s report, which cited the Krafts were making calls outside the organization looking for advice on how to develop Drake Maye.

“The initial conversation centered on how best to ‘support the quarterback.’ Still, that tidbit sprouted in several different directions regarding coordinators, the general manager, Eliot Wolf, and, depending on how this season plays out, Mayo himself,” Giardi wrote.

Giardi’s colleague, the Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard, reported Tuesday he’s not 100% sure Mayo’s job is safe. Bedard, citing sources, wrote the final four games could play a pivotal role in whether or not Mayo returns in 2025.
