The Toronto Raptors are sitting toward the very bottom of the Eastern Conference standings, and it might be some time before one of their biggest stars is playing again.
On Wednesday morning, Shams Charania reported that Scottie Barnes is expected to miss several weeks because of a right ankle injury he suffered on Monday.
Barnes is putting up 20.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists on 46.1 percent from the field this season.
The Raptors will definitely miss Barnes while he is away, and this might seal their fate for the 2024-25 season.

Barnes performed well during his latest game against the New York Knicks on December 9, scoring 15 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes on the court.
But when he tweaked his ankle, it was quite clear that something was really wrong with Barnes, and fans started to prepare for bad news.
Charania’s report could have been worse, and it could have said Barnes is out for the rest of the season, but even a few weeks is bad for the Raptors.
That’s because they are currently the 14th team in the East and have a 7-18 record.
Because Barnes is doing so well, losing him could hurt the team’s chances even more.
At this point, even reaching the Play-In Tournament feels like a longshot right now, but the loss of Barnes could fire up the team and help them play harder.
Raptors fans will pay close attention to Barnes’ recovery and hope he is back as soon as possible.
They also hope the team doesn’t fall apart too much during his absence.
