Ruben Amorim has already experienced an eventful start to life at Manchester United since leaving Sporting CP in November.
The man born in Lisbon has seen Dan Ashworth leave Old Trafford – a man he expected to be working closely alongside as Sporting Director – while his results in the Premier League have been mixed.
Furthermore, the 39-year-old may have an unhappy player on his hands as Marcus Rashford was seen ignoring fans after the defeat at Arsenal, heading straight for the Emirates Stadium tunnel as others applauded the away supporters.
Ruben Amorim clearly has a lot of work to do at Manchester United – but how are his old side Sporting CP coping without him? Let’s take a look.
Sporting CP suffer after Ruben Amorim departs for Manchester United
It seems the Portuguese tactician and his staff were the backbone of Sporting CP.
Amazingly, after a run of 16 wins, a draw and a loss from 18 games under Amorim before his departure to Manchester United, Sporting CP have just suffered four consecutive defeats.
His last game saw Sporting CP fight back from 2-0 down to record a 4-2 win over Braga.
Then, the Portuguese giants managed to record a 6-0 win over Amarante without Amorim in the Portuguese Cup, although that result against the third division side was a false dawn in every sense of the phrase.
Since then, an embarrassing 5-1 defeat against Arsenal has followed, in which the Gunners were 3-0 up at the interval, before a second straight loss at the Jose Alvalade Stadium ensued as Santa Clara recorded a 1-0 win in Lisbon.
Sporting CP then suffered successive 2-1 defeats against Moreirense in Liga Portugal and Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
Clearly, whatever Amorim and his backroom staff were doing in Lisbon was pivotal to Sporting CP being successful, as the Portuguese giants have seen their form fall off a cliff since his departure.
