‘Already in place’: Ben Jacobs claims multiple clubs waiting for green light on Newcastle star

Newcastle United could make a quick start to the January transfer window with one deal ready to go.

The underwhelming business done in the summer has piled pressure on Newcastle United and sporting director Paul Mitchell to get deals over the line in January.

Newcastle will prioritise signing a right winger to improve Eddie Howe’s starting XI at Newcastle, but finances are looking tight once again with the Profit and Sustainability Rules shrinking Newcastle’s transfer budget.

In order to raise funds and make space, Newcastle accept they will have to sell to buy. With the January window just a few weeks away, discussions over who could be sold are currently taking place.

Callum Wilson faces an uncertain future at St James’ Park, but Miguel Almiron looks the most likely to move on.

Miguel Almiron is free to leave Newcastle in January

Howe admitted himself that his Newcastle squad is becoming “stale” and is in need of a refresh.

That means getting rid of a few players on the fringe of the first team, and unfortunately for Almiron, that is where he currently finds himself.

Almiron is now keen to leave Newcastle after being made available by club chiefs. The 30-year-old came close to re-joining the MLS in the summer before his move collapsed and he stayed on Tyneside.

Selling Almiron is key to Newcastle’s transfer plans. Without his exit, it is unlikely that the club will complete any new signings.

Saudi Pro League clubs waiting for Miguel Almiron

Rewind to last January and Almiron almost joined Al-Shabab after the Saudi Pro League side provisionally agreed a deal.

However, the move collapsed because Almiron did not want to play in the Saudi Pro League.

Since then, he has completed a U-turn and Almiron would now consider a Saudi move even though his preference is to return to the MLS.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, multiple Saudi clubs are “waiting for an invitation” to reignite their interest in Almiron.

Speaking on the NUFC Matter YouTube channel, Jacobs said: “I think there’s a realistic chance that Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron go in January. Particularly Miguel Almiron. There is early interest from MLS, where of course he came from.

“There are still Saudi clubs waiting for an invitation to make an offer. Naturally the framework of any deal, because it would be a central one, is already in place from when Al Shabbab tried to sign Almiron.

“They agreed everything in principle with Newcastle but Almiron didn’t want to go.

“So if he changes his mind, then Saudi Arabia is waiting for Miguel Almiron.”
