The Premier League great that Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been compared to on several instances is Manchester United legend David Beckham.
Much like Beckham, Alexander-Arnold is also a phenomenal crosser of the ball, blessed with an expansive range of passing and a wand of a right foot.
Back in January 2022, Paul Merson compared Alexander-Arnold to Beckham due to him possessing a similar “weight of pass” to the former England captain.
Speaking to the Liverpool vice-captain on The Overlap, Gary Neville also told him that he reminds him of David Beckham.
“I put you in the same category as Kevin De Bruyne and David Beckham in terms of use of the ball. I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t know how you do it.”
“I have no idea how you deliver the ball from deep, from high up the pitch, from midfielder, the passes you play.”

Micah Richards explains why David Beckham was a better passer than Trent Alexander-Arnold
Micah Richards was quizzed about who is the superior passer between David Beckham and Alexander-Arnold, as he quickly proceeded to opt for the former Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain icon.
Richards explained on The Rest Is Football podcast: “I would say [David] Beckham, just and the reason why I say that is when you play in midfield, you’ve got less time to make them passes. Where Trent [Alexander-Arnold] sometimes when he comes from right-back going into midfield is almost playing as a quarterback.”
“Sometimes, the passes Beckham would play under pressure were phenomenal so I would just give it to Beckham but both superb.”
Alan Shearer also backed David Beckham due to the fact that they were England teammates.
“I would say Beckham, only because I played with him. Yeah, I played with Becks and he was brilliant but yeah, Trent’s amazing too.”
“Beckham could move it and ping it as well.”
However, Gary Lineker disagreed with both Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, claiming Alexander-Arnold is a better passer of the ball than David Beckham was.
Gary Lineker names Alexander-Arnold as better passer than Beckham
Lineker stated: “I think I’d go Trent. I think, just. Beckham’s as good a crosser as I’ve ever seen, as is Trent. I just think Trent’s range is a little bit…the outside of the foot things and with both feet as well.”
“It’s a tough one because Trent’s passing is right up there.”
“Not much in it but I would go Trent, the outside of the foot pass, the swerves.”
Ultimately, both Alexander-Arnold and Beckham are incredible passers of the ball.
Judging by Micah Richards and Gary Lineker’s responses, it is clear to see that they found it tough to split the pair.
However, it seems like David Beckham has the edge over the 26-year-old, according to The Rest Is Football panel.
