A ground-breaking clinical research study led by the Royal Devon featured on BBC Spotlight on Wednesday, 11 December.
Known as HIPSTER, the ‘hip surgical techniques to enhance rehabilitation’ study is the first of its kind in the world. The study aims to improve the experience of people undergoing total hip replacement surgery to treat severe arthritis. It investigates the impact of two innovative surgical techniques on patient outcomes, comparing them with the traditional approach.
A key feature of the trial is the use of cutting-edge robotic surgery, which allows for greater precision while minimising tendon disruption.
So far, 246 patients have been recruited for the trial, with a target of 309 participants.
