Three Chelsea players Graham Potter could sign if he replaced O'Neil at Wolves, including £32m…

Wolves fans can’t quite believe that Gary O’Neil is still in charge after three straight defeats.

Wolves crashed to a 2-1 loss against West Ham United on Monday to leave Gary O’Neil on the brink.

But the decision was never made, and it was then claimed O’Neil would be given this weekend’s game with Ipswich Town.

There has been a lot of talk over the past few weeks about O’Neil’s future at Molineux, and who could potentially come in to replace him.

Wolves held talks with Graham Potter recently about succeeding O’Neil, but nothing has yet come to fruition.

Seemingly, there are some reservations there – and many Wolves fans probably wouldn’t blame him for not wanting the job.

Wolves in need of change with Gary O’Neil struggling

Wolves are currently 19th in the Premier League table having picked up just nine points from 15 games. And very alarmingly, Wolves have conceded 38 goals.

We’ve seen Wolves give away goals in truly diabolical fashion this season, and the backline has often been all at sea.

There are plenty of other reasons why Wolves are in the position that they are, but the manager does have to take a sizeable portion of the blame.

It does look like O’Neil will be given a little bit longer in the hot seat. But many would now love to see a managerial change – and Potter is someone plenty have already advocated for.

As things currently stand, Potter doesn’t want the Wolves job. But what if he changed his mind and did fancy the gig and wanted to raid his old club for players in January? Here are three names who could be on his radar.

Wolves’ need for a new central defender is well documented and Benoit Badiashile might be someone Potter could consider.

On Potter’s watch, Badiashile joined Chelsea in January 2023 for just over £32 million.

The Frenchman made eight appearances under Potter before he was sacked in April 2023. Badiashile has struggled to start games consistently for the Blues with the likes of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo around, and he’s actually been linked with an exit from Chelsea recently.

What’s more, Badiashile is a player Wolves have been interested in in the past.

Axel Disasi

Unlike Badiashile, Disasi is a player who didn’t actually play under Potter at Chelsea, having joined the club a few months after the Englishman’s departure.

But he’s a player Potter may look to sign regardless of that, with Wolves crying out for a new central defender.

Like Badiashile, Disasi has struggled to get regular starts this season under Enzo Maresca and may be looking to leave in January.

Perhaps something that could appeal to Wolves about Disasi is his ability to play at right-back as well as centre-back.

We’ve seen O’Neil use a back three at times this season, so a place on the right of a three-man defence could suit the Frenchman really well.

Renato Viega

Wolves’ love of a Portuguese player is well known, even despite there being much less of a reliance on Jorge Mendes these days.

Renato Veiga didn’t work with Potter at Chelsea, only arriving at the club in the 2024 summer window – but he’s someone who could well be of interest if he replaced O’Neil at Wolves and wanted to raid Chelsea.

Veiga is a central defender by trade, but has the versatility to be able to operate at left-back and also even in midfield which could come in handy.

He only signed for Chelsea in the summer, then there’d surely only be a chance of a loan move in January.
