'Harsh': Neil Lennon contradicts Brendan Rodgers' Celtic verdict vs Dinamo Zagreb with…

Neil Lennon moved quickly to dispel what he’s been hearing about Celtic’s Champions League draw with Dinamo Zagreb last night.

Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers called the result a ‘missed opportunity’ as he lamented the team’s lack of penetration in the final third.

Celtic fans also agreed that the Zagreb draw was frustrating and felt that a win in Croatia really should have been in the team.

But immediately after the full-time whistle, and before Rodgers made his comments, Lennon dismissed the notion that Celtic missed an opportunity with the Champions League draw in Zagreb.

Neil Lennon says Celtic Champions League criticism is ‘harsh’

Lennon told TNT Sports, “I think a missed opportunity is a bit harsh. I think it’s a good point. It’s a clean sheet away from home.

“In the final third tonight, uncharacteristically, not at their best, but they were comfortable in the main throughout the game.

“I think a point’s a fair result. I would take that. I said at half-time I would take that. If they’re not going to win it, don’t lose it. “

“Nine points and Young Boys to come,” added Lennon, “Now that’s a big opportunity. They win that and it’s 12 points and they are right in that middle section.

“So yeah. I mean, they’re learning as they go on. And that’s a real mature performance. It’s not easy winning comfortably away from home.

“Liverpool just beat Girona, 1-0 away with a penalty, and they are one of the best teams in Europe. So, take the point.”

Top of the UEFA Champions League right now and unbeaten, Liverpool had to work hard for an away win against a Girona team who had lost their last two fixtures to PSV and Strum Graz.

Granted, Zagreb were ravaged by injury but an away point is a good result and leaves Celtic’s Champions League destiny in their own hands.
