Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a contractual decision to make with his Everton starting place now under threat from Armando Broja.
Michael Ball wrote in the Liverpool Echo (10 December) that after Broja’s long-awaited debut for the Toffees in their 4-0 win over Wolves, Sean Dyche can play him and Calvert-Lewin together.
However, with uncertainty over the long-term futures of both strikers and Dan Friedkin’s imminent takeover arrival set to spark further questions both on and off the field, Broja could soon be top of the pecking order.
With the January transfer window coming up, Calvert-Lewin’s current contractual situation is unclear, and it remains to be seen what Friedkin’s decision will be on the 27-year-old’s long-term future.

Expected to be under Friedkin’s ownership going into the January transfer window, it’s unknown just how much funding, if any, Dyche will have to spend on reinforcements for a depleted, inconsistent squad.

Broja may only be on a season-long loan at Goodison Park, but with a £30million permanent transfer option included in his deal [Sky Sports, 31 August], there will be hope he can kick on and become the Blues’ number one striker.
That leaves Calvert-Lewin in a potential bind – out of contract in the summer of 2025 with no signs of a new deal being agreed – and having scored just twice this season, does he really warrant an extension?
If Friedkin decides against awarding Calvert-Lewin a new contract – likely doing so against Dyche’s wishes – the Toffees’ long-term number nine could be forced into an early exit with PSR in mind.
An ultimatum is coming.
