Aston Villa star Jhon Duran could now be worth £80million after his form following a failed move to West Ham, Troy Deeney has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (11 December, 4:42pm), Deeney and Andy Goldstein debated Duran’s current transfer valuation, having scored 10 goals for Villa this season after a move to East London broke down.

Villa refused to budge on their £40m valuation of the 20-year-old despite the Irons lodging several bids, with Julen Lopetegui’s side abandoning their pursuit to sign Niclas Fullkrug instead.

“Was he close to going to West Ham, £35million I think they wanted in the summer?”, Deeney asked.

Goldstein replied: “Yeah they wouldn’t pay the extra four (million), I think it was.”

Deeney said: “You’re probably going to argue that that’s doubled now, I would say, so anywhere between £70m to 80m.”

Jhon Duran transfer opportunity has been and gone for West Ham

Missing out on Duran – given his impact for Villa this term – was the sliding doors moment of West Ham’s season before it even began, and could well be giving Tim Steidten sleepless nights.

If that is the case, the German can hardly be blamed, given the sheer lack of impact his compatriot Fullkrug has served up since arriving at the London Stadium as the direct alternative to the Colombian.

While Duran has fired home five Premier League goals despite starting just one match, and 10 strikes in all competitions, Fullkrug only got off the mark in a 3-1 defeat at Leicester City on 3 December.

Shelling out £27m on the injury-hit Fullkrug to get just four appearances and one goal in return looks worse with every passing Villa game, with Duran often coming off the bench to score decisive goals.

Despite the Hammers being in desperate need of a striker in January following Michail Antonio’s car accident, Steidten has next to no chance of coaxing Duran out of Villa Park now.
