When the New York Jets reunited Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams earlier this season, there was hope that the two would revive that Green Bay Packers magic and push this team into Super Bowl contention. Instead, disappointment filled this season as the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention after a tough 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 14.
Now, both Adams and Rodgers have uncertain futures in New York.
Adams on Rodgers’ Potential Exit: “A Sad Thing for Sure”
Appearing on Up & Adams on Tuesday, Davante Adams admitted a growing reality: his reunion with Rodgers may be short-lived.
“I mean, it’ll be a sad thing for sure, but hopefully that’s not the case,” Adams said. “That’s why we got to make the most of the ones we have here…We had a decent showing last game, and I do say decent because it’s not up to our standard of greatness, but it was definitely a step in the right direction.”

Rodgers, 41, turned in a strong game against the Dolphins – 27 of 39 passing for 339 yards and a touchdown – and Adams contributed nine catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. While flashes of their former greatness flickered, these instances have been infrequent in a season bathed in inconsistency.
Rodgers’ Struggles Raise Questions About His Future
Through 13 starts, Rodgers’ numbers have been uncharacteristically mediocre: 63.1% completion percentage, 2,966 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions- a far cry from the elite production that made him a four-time MVP.

With the Jets sitting at 3-10, it is no surprise that reports are coming out about the team’s plans to move on from Rodgers after just one season. On that note, per SNY’s Connor Hughes, the Jets will likely cut Rodgers this offseason despite financial ramifications.
If they make Rodgers a post-June 1 cut, the Jets will take a $14 million dead cap hit for 2025 and a whopping $35 million in 2026. Neither of those figures is appealing, but the team may consider it a worthwhile charge to take to reboot at quarterback.
Not Only Rodgers’ Future in New York But Adams’ Too
Adams, who joined the Jets in an October 15 trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, has had a muted impact since reuniting with Rodgers. Over seven games, Adams has logged 40 receptions for 453 yards and three touchdowns, surpassing 100 receiving yards only once.
Davante Adams
New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams (17) is tackled by Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker (3) during the fourth quarter at State Farm Stadium.
The 31-year-old receiver’s future with the Jets is also uncertain. Adams carries the team’s highest cap hit for 2025 at $38.3 million, and if he refuses to restructure his contract, New York may be forced to trade or release him.
From Super Bowl Hopes to a Season of Letdowns
The Jets, with Rodgers and Adams reunited, had visions of making a serious run for the Super Bowl; injuries, lackluster performances, and underperformance have derailed the season.
While Rodgers and Adams stay optimistic about what little time they have left together, both could be adorning different jerseys by the start of next season. As far as Jets fans are concerned, it has been tough to swallow a dream scenario falling apart in this manner.

The offseason will bring big decisions for the Jets, but one thing is clear: the Rodgers-Adams reunion hasn’t worked out as planned. Whether it’s a complete rebuild or simply finding new leadership under center, New York faces a pivotal moment in its future.
