Virginia Tech CB Surprisingly Passes up NFL Draft to Enter the Transfer Portal

Going into the 2024 season, it was thought that the Virginia Tech football team had some talent that would be playing on Sundays as soon as next season. Some of those players played on their last year of eligibility while some have one more season of eligibility left. One Hokies’ cornerback is using his final season of eligibility, but it won’t be in Blacksburg.

Wednesday, cornerback Mansoor Delane announced that he is entering the transfer portal and will play his senior season somewhere else. It is somewhat of a surprise that he didn’t declare for the NFL Draft, but truth be told, he’ll make some good money at his next school.

This season playing across from Dorian Strong, Delane was targeted 72 times and allowed 34 receptions. He had four interceptions, and four pass breakups and was considered one of the top cover corners in the game.

A three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, the Maryland native will have no shortage of suitors in the portal. His young brother, Faheem, committed to Ohio State over the summer over Virginia Tech and other schools.

Virginia Tech’s secondary is going to have a different look in 2025 and like almost every other position, it’s going to be a position of need to address through the portal. Since Monday, Mose Phillips, linebacker Keli Lawson, and others have entered the transfer portal. Add in the players without eligibility remaining, the defense is going to look a whole lot different next season.

This off-season is shaping up to be a lot different for Virginia Tech after all the retainment they got last season. Also, finishing 6-6 in a year where expectations were high is going to have key players enter the portal too. The vibe around the program is totally different than it was at this time last season. Not great.
