Callum Wilson picks up new injury – Not what we wanted to hear

News

News on Callum Wilson this Wednesday night and it’s not good.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United rocked by the news that Callum Wilson has picked up a new injury.

The striker having only recently returned from long-term injury and played 57 minutes as a sub in these last four matches, a cameo in each. With Newcastle United fans hoping that he would now be able to step it up and add to United’s goal threat.

The news tonight comes via an exclusive from Craig Hope, The Mail journalist usually very reliable on this kind of behind the scenes stuff.

He says that his information is that on Saturday, Callum Wilson felt tightness in his hamstring when playing the final 17 minutes at Brentford.

The man from [The Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14183263/Newcastle-Callum-Wilson-hamstring-injury.html) saying that the club arranged for scans, which have revealed a strain which is bad enough to keep Wilson out for at least two months, mid-February the earliest possible return.

That would equal missing at least the next dozen matches in the busiest part of Newcastle’s season.

The Mail reporting that it is understood to be a new injury, not the leg he had the most recent hamstring issue with.

Since last Christmas (2023), Callum Wilson has only started two Premier League matches.

As the report points out, this new injury also rules out any possible sale of Callum Wilson in January, which could have helped on the recruitment side of things, especially with Wilson being one of the bigger earners at the club..

A lot of Newcastle United fans usually get angry with news of an injury setback for Callum Wilson, but for me you have to feel sorry for the player and Eddie Howe, as well as for us as fans. The number nine having worked so hard to get back fit and the Head Coach taking every care to take things slowly to help get him eventually playing regularly, then this happens.
