Man Utd reveal who will now fill Dan Ashworth’s shoes in email sent to staff today–report

Manchester United made it clear in an email sent to staff on Wednesday that technical director Jason Wilcox will fill Dan Ashworth’s shoes for the time being, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils parted with their sporting director over the weekend after just five months of work, and Wilcox has now stepped into his role ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Southampton director of football is now the point of contact for the scouting department at Man United on any recruitment matters.

Interim director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is also expected to take a more prominent role, and the Old Trafford club have no plans to appoint another sporting director, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe ditching the role and consigning it to history.

Wilcox, Sir Dave Brailsford and CEO Omar Berrada will now share the responsibilities of the position going forward, with the former Saints chief set to oversee recruitment.

He has already started work, leading the talks with Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno over a deal for 17-year-old left-back Diego Leon.

Berrada was also the one who had a major influence on the appointment of head coach Ruben Amorim, flying to Lisbon, Portugal when Erik ten Hag was relieved of his duties to negotiate with Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas face-to-face.

The Man United board will fancy the chances of the aforementioned quartet of getting the job done, and some squad changes could take place next month.

OGC Nice sign Atalanta forward Jeremie Boga

They are ready to sell Marcus Rashford if an offer comes forward in January, while they could be open to doing deals for Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof before they are out of contract in the summer.

Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton will also become free agents at the end of the season, while Man United would be glad to get rid of Antony and Casemiro.

Amorim needs better players suited to his style of play if he is to succeed at the club, and Wilcox will be more than ready to help him get his squad into the perfect shape.
