Hours after TASS reported that he had left Russia, former Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov posted a photo of himself in front of the state media agency’s headquarters in Moscow on Wednesday.
The photo shows Muratov holding a printout of the TASS story on his purported departure.
TASS, citing Russian law enforcement, [reported](https://tass.ru/obschestvo/22639281) that Muratov had left Russia after being questioned last week in connection with a criminal case involving journalist Kirill Martynov, the current editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe.
Muratov, a winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, resigned from his post at Novaya Gazeta in 2023 after the Russian authorities declared him a “foreign agent” to prevent the outlet from having to post “foreign agent” disclaimers on every article it publishes.
Commenting on the report, Muratov [offered](https://t.me/novaya_pishet/48665) his condolences to his colleagues “who are forced to rely on information trash heaps.”
