Both teams were on eight points and struggling domestically too, so the pressure was on in Turin. Andrea Cambiaso, Nico Gonzalez, Arek Milik, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal missed out, with Weston McKennie and Douglas Luiz back on the bench. City were without Mateo Kovacic, Nathan Aké, Oscar Bobb and Rodri, while John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Phil Foden were not at 100 per cent either.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

It wasn’t until the 20th minute that either side had a real chance, a sudden Kenan Yildiz scorcher from distance that bounced in front of Ederson to flash inches wide.

A lucky ricochet on the Kevin De Bruyne cross fell into the path of Erling Haaland, who scuffed his finish straight at Michele Di Gregorio.

There was a much better chance moments later, as Haaland was sent clear through the middle by an exceptional De Bruyne pass and tried to dink it over Di Gregorio, but the goalkeeper stood his ground and got his fingertips to it.

Juventus took the lead on 53 minutes when Federico Gatti’s acrobatic attempt was parried by Ederson, but the move continued with a Kenan Yildiz cross for Vlahovic’s header at the back post, which Ederson failed to claw off the line from point-blank range.

City tried to react immediately, but Gatti charged down the Jeremy Doku effort after he squirmed between two defenders, then Di Gregorio flew for a one-handed save on the Ilkay Gundogan curler that was going into the top corner.

However, they were beaten on the counter-attack with a goal made in the USA. McKennie started the move from the centre-circle sending Tim Weah down the right, the first attempt at a pull-back was intercepted by Doku, but the second found McKennie for an acrobatic scissor-kick volley from 10 yards.
