Weah assists sensational McKennie scissor kick vs. Man City

Weston McKennie made a sensational return to the Juventus lineup on Wednesday, scoring a scissor kick in a 2-0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League.

The goal was a history-maker, as Tim Weah's assist meant it was the first time ever in the Champions League that one U.S. men's national team player assisted another.

McKennie missed two games in a row for Juventus with muscle fatigue, but was back in the squad as the Premier League champions paid a visit to Turin.

With Juve up 1-0 in the second half, head coach Thiago Motta introduced both McKennie and Weah in a 69th-minute double substitution.

Motta's move would pay dividends straight away, as McKennie produced one of the best goals of his career six minutes after coming on.

McKennie found Weah with a lofted ball to the right flank, with the winger's cross initially blocked. When the ball came back to Weah, he calmly found McKennie with his second attempt, and the midfielder unleashed a sensational scissor kick that flew past Ederson in City's goal.

It was the third goal of the season for McKennie, and his second in the Champions League. Weah has also had a productive campaign, with the 24-year-old now on four goals and two assists in 2024-25.

It was also the second time this season that Weah provided an assist for McKennie, with the same link-up taking place in an October league draw against Parma.
