Today, 11th December, the news has been completely dominated by Manchester United’s interest in Diego Leon of Cerro Porteno.
It’s been well-known for some time that United have been scouting left-backs to fill the whole that is routinely left by Luke Shaw’s persistent injuries.
However, the primary targets until now have been Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as a late entry.
However, seemingly come out of nowhere, Diego Leon has emerged as a key contender to join the club for the left-wing-back role in Amorim’s system.

Manchester United’s whirlwind pursuit of Diego Leon
The news started today, with the report that United have entered “advanced negotiations” for the 17-year-old.
However, no matter how well the talks went, it was clear that United would have to wait some time until he could move to Old Trafford.
Unfortunately for The Red Devils, they would have to wait for his 18th birthday before officially signing him.
Leon turns 18 in April 2025, meaning the earliest United could move for him would be next summer.
Now, Academy Scoop have reported that a deal has been agreed in principle.
As expected, the pre-agreement is reportedly in place for Leon to transfer to United in June 2025, after his 18th birthday.
Whilst there are still some minor details to work out, the verbal agreement is now in place between both clubs and the full-back.
