Football agent Vincenzo Morabito has poured cold water on suggestions that Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee could be on his way to Napoli.
Zirkzee only signed for United in the summer from Bologna, in a deal worth around £36.5m.
He enjoyed a fairytale start to life in England, scoring a last-minute winning goal on the opening day of the Premier League season, against Marco Silva’s Fulham.
However, it went downhill from there as Zirkzee managed to only add two more goals to his account in his subsequent 20 appearances – both of these goals were notched against Everton earlier this month.
Amidst suggestions that there could be a squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer windows, it has been suggested that Zirkzee is not entirely safe, even as he continues to be linked with a return to Serie A.
In addition to being mentioned to be on Juventus’ radar, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte is an admirer of the player.
It was stated that Cone has already given the “green light” to the club’s hierarchy to pursue Zirkzee ahead of the January transfer window.
However, it seems the Partenopei are set to be disappointed if comments made by football agent Vincenzo Morabito are anything to go by.
Addressing the Zirkzee to Napoli rumours, Morabito said [via GIVEMESPORT], “I can exclude a transfer of Zirkzee to Napoli in January. Players at this level hardly move when the league is underway.”
“The Dutchman has just arrived at United and his difficulties in tactical adaptation are normal at this stage. In Italian football, when a player isn’t used to certain game systems, it is normal that he may encounter some initial difficulties.”
“As for Zirkzee, Manchester United have no intention of selling him, not even on loan.”
“They would still have to replace him, and this would involve a further investment to replace him in the squad.”
Zirkzee and his teammates are back in Europa League action on Thursday when they face Viktoria Plzeňa at Doosan Arena.
