The Champions League remains one of the big stages where players can showcase their talent in games, as they will be aware of the numerous scouts present at games. Such has been the case with Joel Ordonez, who has been watched closely by a host of big teams this season as he continued to impress for Club Brugge.
The Belgian side were in action on Tuesday night as they beat Sporting CP, as Ordonez put in a commanding display in the win. Scouts from as many as 20 clubs were in attendance, including those from Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Chelsea and Newcastle are in the market to improve their defensive ranks, as a new centre-back is firmly on the agenda of either side’s managers. The Blues have had an interest in Ordonez and could explore the idea of approaching ahead of January.
Similarly, Newcastle United are also keen on Ordonez, as Eddie Howe wants to bring in a new defender as they have shortages at the back this season. The scouts from either club would have been impressed with what they saw of the defender, with Club Brugge likely to brace for approaches ahead of January.
Ordonez will cost £25 million in January
Club Brugge are set to make the best of the situation with Ordonez if it comes to selling the defender. They want a reported £25 million fee in return to sell the Ecuadorian, which in this market would be seen as a bargain price by many top clubs, especially those on the English shores.
The £25 million-rated South American defender does seem ready for the big level of the Premier League, as he could provide competition for places at Chelsea or Newcastle United and become a top player in the future as he does seem to have a bright time ahead.
