Since we ran a piece on [Blazer’s Edge Night 2024-25](https://www.blazersedge.com/2024/12/11/24319156/portland-trail-blazers-tickets-giveaway-charity-2024-edge-night) today, talking all about kids getting to go to their very first [Portland Trail Blazers](https://www.blazersedge.com) game, let’s open up a parallel discussion question and learn a little bit more about each other.
What’s your very first Portland Trail Blazers memory? How did the relationship between you and the Blazers start and how significant was that event to the rest of your fandom?
Mine happened when I walked downstairs into our basement one day when I was about seven years old. My dad was watching something on TV, a bunch of guys running all around and bouncing a ball on a wooden floor.
I asked what it was. “Basketball,” he said. “It’s a game people play and these players are the best at it. They’re professional. They do it for a living.”
“Oh!” I replied as I sat down to watch. The idea of throwing that orange ball into a hoop fascinated me.
“Do you see those players in the white uniforms?” he asked. “That’s our team.”
“Our team? We OWN them?”
“Ha! Noooo. That’s the team from our city. Portland. They represent all of us.”
“Oh!” I said. I liked that too. This was our team. I hoped they won.
My dad went on to explain some of the rules and I was hooked. On my very next birthday he got me a basketball and a hoop to mount on our garage. From then on I shot all I could and listened to as many Blazers games as my parents would let me. (They were on kind of late.) And that’s how the journey here began for me.
