Top diplomats of South Korea and Japan have exchanged opinions on the situation in South Korea and bilateral relations.  According to Seoul’s foreign ministry on Wednesday, foreign minister Cho Tae-yun explained the current situation in South Korea and the government’s efforts for stable management of state affairs during a phone call with Japanese foreign minister Takeshi Iwaya. During the 20-minute phone call on Wednesday evening, Cho stressed that South Korea will continue its foreign diplomacy in a consistent manner while maintaining the current relations with Japan According to the ministry, the top diplomats said that bilateral cooperation between the two nations and trilateral cooperation with the United States are very important in dealing with North Korean and other global issues.  The two sides then agreed to work together for the development of bilateral relations. 

The top diplomats also agreed to continue efforts to prepare events marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations next year and to maintain close communication at various levels.
