Michael Wilbon Believes The Bears Should Keep Ryan Poles

The Chicago Bears had high hopes of righting the ship this season, with an influx of promising young talent from the 2024 NFL Draft, like quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze.

Even though initially it looked like the Bears might have been able to turn things around with four wins in their first six games, following a devastating loss to the Washington Commanders because of a last-second Hail Mary touchdown pass by Jayden Daniels, Chicago lost its way, resulting in seven straight losses.

After losing to the division-rival Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day due to an epic coaching collapse with the game in hand in the fourth quarter, the team fired head coach Matt Eberflus, and then the crosshairs turned to general manager Ryan Poles.

Many Bears fans seem to feel that Poles should also get fired and the team needs to start from scratch at head coach and general manager, but Chicago native Mike Wilbon disagrees via ESPN Chicago.

“I was not thinking of looking for a new general manager given that this one is so deep into this build,” Wilbon said. ” … I’m not ready to give up on Poles yet.”

With the Bears clearly going all in with Williams under center, it’ll be interesting to see if the franchise sticks by Poles moving forward or chooses to take a different approach during the upcoming offseason.

The storied franchise will be put under the microscope this offseason, with everyone wondering what the team will do to get back on track as a promising young team with a bright future.
