FRISCO - The biggest football brand in the world, the Dallas Cowboys, calls Frisco, Texas, their home. When it comes to winning football though, one may remain in the DFW metroplex but venture down to the high school ranks and Southeast of Dallas to Duncanville High School.
The local powerhouse is home to the 2022 Texas 6A Division I State Champion. The 13-0 squad has their eyes on another title, having chainsawed through each of their opponents thus far.
Tuesday, their starting quarterback Keelon Russell received a special honor and a surprise visit from a Cowboys' star. Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs paid a visit to Duncanville, presenting Russell with the Gatorade National Player of the Year award.
"This is a great opportunity... you worked hard for sure, put your head down, worked hard and see where it got you," Diggs told Russell. "I want you to keep that same mindset especially going into college.
"You're a great player and that's a great award," he finished. This is the third straight year the award has been given to a player from Texas.

Russell is signed to play at Alabama, giving him a connection to the Cowboys' defensive back who played four years with the Crimson Tide.
The senior quarterback has completed 69.6% of his passes for 3,874 passing yards, tossing 53 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He has also rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries this season.
It is a special honor for a certainly special player who may become a star in college football over the next few years.
