RENTON, Wash. - Seattle Seahawks running back Ken Walker III is considered day-to-day due to a calf injury, head coach Mike Macdonald said on Wednesday.
Walker did not play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and had follow-up testing on Monday to determine the severity of his injury. Macdonald said those tests were positive.
"It got more complicated as the week went on, so that's why we had to do some more tests and stuff," Macdonald said. "But right now, there are positive signs. So, we'll just say day-to-day, I think is fair, but it's not long-term."
Walker was limited in practice last Wednesday before being held out the rest of the week. Zach Charbonnet took Walker's place in the starting lineup and had a career day against Arizona with 193 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in the 30-18 victory. The performance earned Charbonnet the NFL's Ground Player of the Week with 134 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown.
"His full talents were on display," Macdonald said of Charbonnet on Monday. "I mean, out of the backfield running the ball. So he's kind of a threat at all different points."
Macdonald said he would like to see Walker be able to practice this week in order to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, but that it wasn't absolutely necessary.
Roster Moves:
The Seahawks designated cornerback Artie Burns and safety K'Von Wallace to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.
Burns had appeared in just one game for the Seahawks this season due to a toe injury that has lingered since training camp. Wallace injured his ankle last month against the Los Angeles Rams and has missed the last four games.
With the depth of Seattle's secondary, they don't need to rush either Burns or Wallace back into action. Both players can practice with the team before needing to be activated from injured reserve. Tre Brown missed Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, which could prioritize a quicker return for Burns. However, Nehemiah Pritchett is still available as a fourth cornerback for this week even if Brown can't play.
Seattle also re-signed running back Brittain Brown to the practice squad for added depth with Walker still uncertain. Brown and George Holani are the two depth options on the practice squad at running back for Seattle. Brown replaces punter Ty Zentner on the practice squad, who was released with Michael Dickson recovering from his back spasms.
