According to multiple sources, many in the league believe this Jets wide receiver could request a trade after the season.

One NFL insider believes wide receiver Garrett Wilson may request a trade this upcoming offseason after a disappointing 2024 campaign. According to Bleacher Report, it might be a matter of time before Wilson wants out of the New York Jets and head to a team where he can finally produce the numbers he wants. The New York Jets had a lot of excitement going into this year with Aaron Rodgers finally getting the opportunity to be the starter after tearing his ACL last season in his debut. However, frustrations from chemistry issues didn’t make the Jets’ chances any better since they haven’t figured out a way to be in the winning column.
Zack Rosenblatt of the Athletic reported that Wilson wouldn’t want to stick around if things didn’t get better in New York. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the wide receiver was on pace to be one of the most reliable playmakers in the league, setting the franchise rookie records for receptions and receiving yards in a single season. However, his production has been dwindling each year after that season despite the Jets trading for Davante Adams before the NFL trade deadline.
Drama continues in New York so it’s safe for the team to move on from Wilson to let him join a contender where he could find himself. While Wilson plays a huge role in the Jets offense, his frustrations and New York heading likely for a rebuild won’t be sufficient for him to play at his peak. The Chargers, Chiefs may trade for him to bring out the best in his playmaking abilities.
New Life in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Chargers are having one of the better seasons after bringing in head coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to improve this roster. They were on a slow start but things have been picking back up in terms of the passing game despite having several wide receivers. However, Ladd McConkey proved that he could be the long-term answer for Justin Herbert’s passing attack but bad news is hitting the Chargers before the game against the Buccaneers.
Herbert is battling an injury while Jalen Reagor and Will Dissly will probably miss a couple of weeks. Despite that, if these injuries continue to crumble their season into the playoffs, they could continue rebuilding their receiving depth. DJ Chark hasn’t been doing anything phenomenal while Quentin Johnston has his moments but nothing to intrigue the Chargers to give him a long-term deal. With Joshua Palmer set to hit free agency, the Chargers should add Garrett Wilson at WR2 who could solve the deep passing game for Herbert.
Extra Resources for Mahomes
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs are probably one of the worst this season after winning back-to-back Super Bowls. They’ve been clutching up in several matches but this luck may not carry into the postseason. The team lost several key pieces this season, including Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown but made up trading for DeAndre Hopkins. However, rookie Xavier Worthy is having issues establishing legitimate chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.
The defense has been keeping the team together but it might not withhold the high-speed offenses they may face in the postseason. Hopkins is set to become a free agent after the year and there has been no indication of extending him. He’s aging so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they don’t sign him to a new contract. It might be safer to bet on Wilson since he has several years ahead of him.
