Liverpool have never been afraid to be busy in the January transfer market.

Current captain Virgil van Dijk is arguably the best of the bunch after joining from Southampton in 2018. But his future remains up in the air with just a few months remaining on his contract.

He could potentially join Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold in leaving the club - all of the trio yet to sign a new deal. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t hard work going on behind the scenes at Anfield.

New faces might also be set to arrive over the coming weeks. Take a look at all of the latest rumours and confirmed deals coming out of the red side of Merseyside:

Van Dijk quiet on future

Reds captain Virgil van Dijk brutally dismissed a fresh question about his future. The Dutchman remains out of contract this summer.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win against Girona, he was asked for a word on contract talks. He replied by saying: “There is no word.”

The interviewer again attempted to probe but Van Dijk remained stubborn as he repeated “no word” before saying “no news to bring”.

Liverpool sign Man City wonderkid

Liverpool have sealed a deal for former Manchester City trainee Lucas Clarke. The 16-year-old defender has penned a contract with the Reds and is expected to go into Liverpool’s youth ranks.

He took to social media to announce the move. Writing on Instagram, Clarke said: “Delighted to have signed for @liverpoolfc can’t wait to get started #ynwa”.

It is not the first time that Liverpool have moved to sign a promising youngster from one of their rivals. Back in September, Liverpool completed the signing of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea.

The 16-year-old attacker had been offered a new deal to stay with the Blues but was tempted to Anfield due to a clearer pathway through to the first-team.

Klavan retires

Former Liverpool star Ragnar Klavan has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39. Taking to social media, the former defender wrote: "Today, I’ll say goodbye to my first love. It’s time to put an end to the journey I began at the age of 15 and will conclude a 24-year career as a professional footballer. I want to thank you - dear football fans - for being with me throughout this time!”

He added: "My journey as a footballer has been full of significant milestones and remarkable people. Reaching the European Championship playoffs with the Estonian national team and the entire iconic year of 2011. One the club level, of course, winning the Dutch league title and reaching the Champions League final with Liverpool. Undoubtedly, I've been very fortunate to work with many of the world's best managers."

"At 13, my dream was to reach the top-tier of English football and the Premier League. Yes - it took 17 years, but I achieved it (!), and as a cherry on top, of course, playing for Liverpool. Now I no longer can keep up with the youngsters on the field, but I can still DREAM BIG."
