"Of course, it's a bad situation" - Ruben Amorim on Manchester United's decision to part ways with Dan Ashworth

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has opined on the departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth. The 53-year-old joined United in July 2024 and left the club after the 3-2 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Ashworth was reportedly part of the individuals who backed Erik ten Hag before the Dutchman was dismissed in October 2024. He also played a crucial role during the negotiations of several new signings at the club.

Amorim spoke about Ashworth during a press conference. He said (via Centredevils):

"Of course, it's a bad situation. Like I said, we are talking about a human being, a professional, that supports us as a team but I think the most important thing is the vision is really clear and that don't change if one person leaves."

The Red Devils hierarchy did not give a specific reason why Ashworth left the club just five months after his appointment. But his departure could be linked to the club's plan to reshape the structure and the poor performance of some new signings.

As per ESPN (via TEAMTALK), Ashworth played a vital role in the signing of Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt. Both players have struggled to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford this season.

Zirkzee has netted three goals in 21 games, while De Ligt has struggled to stabilize the defense despite registering 20 appearances across competitions this season.

The Red Devils are looking to offload Marcus Rashford in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report by GOAL. The Englishman is valued at £40 million as per the aforementioned report.

Rashford has grown to be one of the longest-serving players at Old Trafford. This is based on the idea that he has not featured for any club other than United professionally.

However, this could all change as Manchester United are reportedly open to selling him. Manchester United's interest in selling Rashford could be one of the numerous reforms that we might be witnessing under the new joint management.

In 425 games across competitions for United, the Englishman has scored 138 goals and registered 68 assists.

This season, Rashford has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 23 games in all competitions.
