Richard Dunne has suggested this Premier League star as a potential transfer option for Chelsea.

Chelsea have applied a firm grip on the Premier League this season and impressed fans and neutrals alike with their performances so far. After finishing 12th in the 2022/23 campaign, the Blues have slowly and steadily climbed back up to challenge in the upper bracket of the table.

Following Arsenal’s latest draw to Fulham, Chelsea have leapfrogged into second place. Enzo Maresca’s side are now Liverpool’s closest title rivals — an outcome that not many predicted after they finished sixth last time round. Following the postponed Merseyside Derby, there are now just four points between Chelsea and the league leaders.

The Blues have grasped an opportunity both Arsenal and Manchester City have failed to do. The reigning champions are now eight points adrift of the top spot, and trailing four behind Chelsea. Ally McCoist recently heaped the praise on Maresca and his side, complimenting their improvement from last season.

“It looks like the Chelsea midfield have a different balance to them and a different attitude,” the pundit said on talkSPORT. “It looks excellent and it’s really refreshing to see. The credit must go to the players for turning it around but also to Enzo Maresca, who’s got them playing some excellent football.”

Along with their impressive form, Chelsea are being linked with some high profile players as we enter the final weeks of 2024. The Blues have been backed to explore their options and former Stamford Bridge star Pat Nevin recently highlighted their backline as an area needing improvement.

He suggested Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite as the potential ‘final piece of the jigsaw’ at Chelsea, and he isn’t the only one to make such a suggestion either.

Ex-Everton and Manchester City defender Richard Dunne spoke to LondonWorld about Branthwaite’s future following heavy interest from Manchester United. The pundit believes the 22-year-old is destined for a move higher up in the Premier League and believes Chelsea would be keen on snapping him up in 2025.

“I don’t have any concerns about his ability to play for a club that are expected to win more football games than they lose and challenge for titles. Jarrad Branthwaite can definitely operate at the top end of the table in the Premier League,” Dunne said.

“I think a few clubs will be looking at him. If Manchester United’s interest has moved on with all of the changes that are happening at the club, then I think a team like Chelsea would definitely be interested in him. I think he has the right kind of profile to play for them and any if the tip four clubs.”

Recent reports have claimed United are still very much interested in signing Branthwaite but Everton are not budging on their £75 million valuation of their star defender.
