As the New York Giants continue their march to the top of the 2025 NFL Draft, they'll have the chance to give young players the opportunity to shine and carve out roles for themselves on next year's team.
That's meaningful for a rookie class that is easily general manager Joe Schoen's best through three offseasons. Five players graced starting roles, several found success, and with a month left in the season, there's ample time to build momentum towards next season.
However, second-round safety Tyler Nubin won't be among them.
Nubin suffered an ankle injury in Week 14's 14-11 loss to the New Orleans Saints. On Wednesday, the team officially placed him on injured reserve.
With four games remaining and a mandated four-game absence, his season is over.
Nubin's rookie season can be considered a success, although it's fair to suggest he didn't have the immediate, dynamic impact that some expected from him. His best plays came close to the line of scrimmage, where he often played bigger than his frame and blew up run plays. He was physical, aggressive, and retained the quick trigger that made him dangerous at Minnesota.

However, as a Golden Gopher, Nubin set the school record for interceptions. His ball skills made him special, and the promise of blending processing with athleticism was supposed to create turnovers for the Giants' defense.
In a medley of his inconsistencies and role, that didn't come to fruition. New York has forced a lowly two interceptions on the season, and he has neither of them.
Nubin's rookie year will end with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, a pass breakup, 94 tackles, and four tackles for loss. With his starting job safe but upside left to tap into, he'll be an important player to monitor in 2025.
For now, he'll likely be replaced by safety Dane Belton, adding to the team's already dire injury situation.
