All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Premier League.
Another big weekend of Premier League football is approaching, and one with plenty of eye-catching clashes for the London clubs. Fulham face another huge test this weekend, taking on Liverpool, while Crystal Palace will test their revival against bitter rivals Brighton.
Elsewhere, Arsenal take on Everton, Tottenham go to Southampton, Chelsea host London rivals Brentford and West Ham head South to Bournemouth. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the top flight.
Shearer prediction
Alan Shearer believes Palace will be safe from relegation this season. He said on the Rest is Football podcast: “I think they’ll have enough. They’ve got too much ability in that team to be relegated, I think. I would be confident in saying that they’ll get out of the trouble they’re in.”
Palace are now four points clear of the drop after a recent revival, but they are the team directly above Ipswich Town in 18th place. The Eagles are four unbeaten through a difficult run of fixtures, though they have only won one of those games.
Soler’s Loptegui defence
West Ham midfielder Carlos Soler says Julen Lopetegui needs time to turn things around at the London Stadium. “We have been inconsistent, because there are games that we play well, I think, and we deserve to win, like the one against Leicester (3-1) , and then there is the day against Arsenal (2-5),” he told AS.
“It is true that it is a great club and a great team (Arsenal), but we can do much better. The project has many new players. The club has changed the coach, the style of play too, and I think that takes time. Today we have achieved a very important victory with which we do not improve in the table, but it does help us to gain confidence.”
He added: “There are coaches who come to a club and in the first season, in the first games, they excel. I just remembered, for example, Arne Slot at Liverpool. It is not easy, but it is also Liverpool. In my opinion, I think it takes time.”
Leon deal agreed
Manchester United are said to have agreed a deal to sign Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon. According to Fabrizio Romano, United have been locked in talks with Leon’s representatives, and they have reached an agreement.
It’s claimed the Red Devils will pay £3.2million for Cerro Porteno, with the player’s agent reportedly in England to wrap up a deal. Leon is a signing for the future, still only 17 years of age, although he has already made 19 senior appearances for his current club this season.
