Trae Young's storied history with the New York Knicks opened a new chapter on Dec. 11, as the Atlanta Hawks' star led his team to another victory on the Madison Square Garden floor. Young finished the night with 22 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, and a steal in 36 minutes played. And he didn't leave the floor quietly.
As time expired in the fourth quarter, Young stood on the Knicks logo at halfcourt and imitated a dice roll--signaling his and the Hawks' upcoming trip to Vegas, as apart of the next round of the NBA Cup, where they'll face the Milwaukee Bucks.
Young improved to 7-14 all-time against New York, and 6-5 on the Madison Square Garden floor. His rivalry with the Knicks is well documented, and will continue to be, as it seems the wounds are still open for fans of the blue and orange.
New York struggled to hit three-pointers against Atlanta, going 11-of-42 from behind-the-arc. Karl-Anthony Towns fell into foul trouble early on in the fourth quarter, and the Hawks' offensive rebounding immediately improved. Atlanta outrebounded the Knicks 58 to 49, but 22 to 12 on the offensive glass. Jalen Brunson was uncharacteristically quiet, finishing the night with 14 points on 33% shooting. Credit to Dyson Daniels, who's defense continues to reach new heights.
Young and the Hawks will take on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks in Las Vegas on Dec. 14. Tip-off time will be announced closer to game day.
