Big Market NFL Team Looking Hard at Shedeur Sanders to Replace $160M QB

Shedeur Sanders has been in the spotlight for the last two years as the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, but the lights are about to get a whole lot brighter.

Sanders is among the top signal callers in college football and will probably jockey with Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward as the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft -- or, at the very least, the honor of being the first QB selected (probably in the first two or three picks overall).

Were the league to hold the draft today, the Las Vegas Raiders would select first and the New York Giants would follow. The Raiders are a popular potential destination for Sanders, as owner Mark Davis has already expressed his interest. Meanwhile the QB's father, Deion Sanders, recently joked (seemingly) with head coach Antonio Pierce about drafting both of his sons.

However, the Raiders and Giants are each 2-11, and it could be New York that sneaks into the top spot, thereby earning the first right of refusal when it comes to drafting Sanders. The team has won four Super Bowl titles and plays in the biggest market in the country, and bringing it back to relevance could be incredibly appealing to the Sanders family.

The Giants, too, have recently shown significant interest in Sanders, per a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

"And then there's the draft dynamic -- the Giants could snag the No. 1 overall pick, and general manager Joe Schoen has spent significant time in Colorado, current home of top QB prospect Shedeur Sanders," Fowler wrote. "Schoen and [head coach Brian] Daboll have yet to pick their own quarterback. Will they get that chance?"

Ownership saddled Schoen and Daboll with former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones when the team brought the pair in ahead of the 2022 campaign. The Giants went to the playoffs and won a road game against the Minnesota Vikings on uper Wildcard Weekend that year, which led to the franchise offering Jones a $160 million extension.

New York axed that agreement, though not without serious financial implications, by cutting Jones this season. And while the current brass did not make the decision to draft the failed quarterback, it was essential in the decision to extend him to that harmful contract.

Sanders represents a chance for Schoen and Daboll to make good and save their jobs, which may mean a professional relationship is inevitable if the Giants slide into the No. 1 overall pick by season's end.
