Marcus Rashford told to finally make Man Utd transfer decision or'just leave'

Marcus Rashford of Manchester United

Manchester United can’t keep waiting for Marcus Rashford to rediscover his best form and would be better off cutting their losses, according to Gordon Strachan.

Rashford has scored three goals in five games for United since the arrival of Ruben Amorim as manager. He has seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances this season altogether but has been deemed expendable by United chiefs, who are keen to offload players in the January transfer window.

The problem is that Rashford is paid £325,000 per week on a contract until June 2028, having signed a lucrative extension on the back of his 30-goal season in 2022/23. Rashford’s professionalism has been questioned at times, with a boozy trip to Belfast last season a recent example of his off-field problems.

Former United midfielder Strachan has grown tired of Rashford’s fluctuating form and thinks the arrival of Amorim could be the time for the 27-year-old to leave. “Well, that's one of the problems that Man United have – we've just got to hold our breath for Marcus Rashford to play well,” he told Gambling Zone.

“And we've just got to go through this again every season where we've got to hope Marcus gets better. ‘I hope he starts smiling and I hope he starts enjoying the game.’ Do me a favour. If you don't enjoy it at the club, leave. Just leave and then we can all get on with it. You're a good footballer, son.

“As Man United fans, do you want to just keep waiting for Marcus to do well? I think that conversation should be moved on now and just put away. You either want to play or you don't want to play. Do me a favour, if you're not enjoying it, do something else then.”

Amorim has fielded Rashford as a central striker and is convinced that he can bring the best out of him over time. "We'll try to find the right solution for him but he has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment," he said earlier this month. "Then he will have all the help of the staff, the club and the fans because he is a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to want it."

Rashford doesn’t appear to be thinking about leaving his boyhood club. “He (Amorim) has come in in a busy period and hopefully the connection keeps building and growing,” he said recently.

“He's come in with a great attitude and it's passed onto the players. The atmosphere is one of the most special things about his club and playing at this great stadium is always a great feeling.

“It is early on but I feel energised and ready for the next game. This game has only just finished but the next one is always the focus for the players.”
