Manchester City have suffered yet another defeat, this time against Juventus in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola‘s side are on their worst run ever. The defending Premier League champions have won just one of their last 10 games in all competitions, which is a shocking record.
The defeat to Juventus on Wednesday night has pushed City to 22nd in the Champions League table. There is now a very serious risk of elimination.
Jamie Carragher has now had his say on the terrible situation Manchester City are in now.
Jamie Carragher shares what Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will be asking himself now
Guardiola is arguably the greatest manager football has ever seen.
The Spaniard has won it all over the years, and he has achieved some truly incredible things at all the clubs he has managed.
Guardiola has often looked unbeatable at Manchester City, but his side are on their worst run since he took charge of the club.
One win in 10 games is a horrible return for any club, let alone one of the best in Europe. He is under a lot of pressure now, and Carragher feels Guardiola must be regretting signing his new deal.
Speaking on CBS Sports after City’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus, Carragher was asked by Kate Scott what Guardiola is thinking.
He replied: “‘Why did I sign this contract?’ That’s what he’s thinking!
“You can’t believe what you’re seeing. This is a massive crisis. This was a crisis two or three weeks ago. The greatest manager, the most successful manager possibly of all time, he’s got no answers for it right now. He hasn’t!
“He’s tried different things, different systems, and players in different positions… a manager as great as him is really, really struggling and finding it tough. And he has never gone through this before, so he’s got no experience of this situation. He has got nothing to fall back on and really look up at, because he has been so successful in the past.
“Yeah, I think it’s a real eye-opener. And I think there are a lot of coaches around the world looking at Pep with a wry smile, not enjoying what he’s going through, but just thinking: ‘Finally Pep Guardiola is going through something we’ve all been through at some stage in our career’.”
Can Guardiola turn it around at Manchester City?
Carragher’s right, Guardiola has never experienced something like this before. That lack of experience is slightly worrying.
Manchester City are still dominating games in the Premier League and the Champions League more often than not, but they lack that cutting edge in the final third and are failing to take the few chances that they’re generating.
Something has to change, but if there’s anyone who can turn it around, it’s the best manager in the world, Guardiola.
The January transfer window is not too far away and we expect City to be active there. One or two big additions in the winter window could be enough to change their fortunes.
