Man Utd ready to take£80m hit on star player as staggeringly low new value claimed, it shows two worrying things

Manchester United have struggled with buying and selling at the right times through the years.

Paul Pogba was one instance. Manchester United refused to cash in on the unhappy Frenchman, and ended up letting him leave on a free transfer for a second time in 2022.

Selling has long been a problem for the club, either holding onto players for too long and not selling when the time is right, or not at all.

Another dilemma approaches the club now with Marcus Rashford, where a desperate Manchester United risk selling the player for too low.

Marcus Rashford new price tag claimed

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is working under another new boss, now trying to find his form under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has given mixed messages about Rashford’s suitability for his system, and the forward has been in and out of the team.

This week The Telegraph claimed Manchester United are open to cashing in on Marcus Rashford, which has sparked more speculation over his future.

United’s options to cash in on one of the club’s highest earners are slim – and that has led to a potentially reduced price tag.

The Mail report Manchester United are open to offers for Marcus Rashford at just £40 million.

Cashing in on Marcus Rashford would solve Manchester United’s PSR issues, But the reported value of the player is eye-opening.

The Mirror reported in early 2023 that Manchester United valued Marcus Rashford at £120 million.

At that time he was heading towards a 30-goal season. He failed to hit double figures last season. This season has seven goals so far.

Rashford subsequently signed a new deal, yet with his form crashing from his peak, it is now claimed his value has dropped by £80 million.

Alarming for United for two reasons

Marcus Rashford being valued at just £40 million is a worrying sign for two reasons for Manchester United fans.

It firstly highlights the steep decline Rashford’s inconsistent form has brought, he has not been capped by England in more than a year.

And perhaps more worrying, it shines a light on how desperate Manchester United’s financial situation may be.

While £40 million would be one of Manchester United’s record ever sales, second only to Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, it also feels too low.

United risk selling at the star’s lowest point – but the risk is that Rashford still has some depths to sink, if his form does not pick up.
