Teddy Bridgewater is finding quite a bit of success in the second act of his football career.
The longtime NFL quarterback spent his final season in the NFL with the Detroit Lions in 2023, announcing late in the season his plans to retire and return to his high school alma mater as head coach. Bridgewater took over coaching duties at Miami Northwestern, where he served as quarterback from 2008-11, and led a quick turnaround.
As Collin Ginnan of On3 noted, Miami Northwestern was coming off its first losing season in a decade when Bridgewater took over as head coach. The team made a sharp turnaround, losing just two times in the regular season and beating Melbourne Eau Gallie 40-0 last week to advance to the Florida 3A state championship against Jacksonville Raines.
Bridgewater was a first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft, spending his first three seasons in Minnesota before joining the New Orleans Saints in 2018. Bridgewater went 5-0 in the 2019 season while starting in relief of injured Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
Bridgewater spent his final NFL season largely in a mentoring role, helping Lions rookie Hendon Hooker learn and adjust to the league.
But Bridgewater's own NFL career may not be over. He hinted earlier this year that he would be interested in jobs once the high school season ended.
"So many QB jobs available for me after we make this state title run," Bridgewater wrote in a post on X. "I can't wait to return back to the NFL."
