New PSG, Viktor Gyokeres transfer update will interest Coventry City

PSG are pushing to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, in a move that would financially benefit Coventry City.

The Swedish international joined the Sky Blues in the summer of 2021, and he went on to flourish under the guidance of Mark Robins in the Championship, which included helping Coventry to the play-off final.

Failure to go up meant a summer move was always likely for Gyokeres last year, and that proved to be the case, as the striker moved to Lisbon, and he has gone on to establish himself as one of the top strikers in world football.

Viktor Gyokeres transfer latest

Coventry sold Gyokeres to Sporting CP in a deal worth up to £21m, and they also inserted a 15% sell-on as part of the agreement.

The Portuguese outfit were able to reduce that by 5% if certain bonus payments were met, and it was confirmed in the summer that they had taken that option.

Therefore, Coventry will be entitled to 10% of the profit made on any sale, and with Gyokeres having a release clause of around £85m, it means they could be in line for a decent payday at some point in the future.

Given his form for Sporting CP domestically and in Europe, it’s perhaps no surprise that several of the biggest clubs in the world have been credited with an interest in Gyokeres at some point.

Most recently, it has been claimed that Ruben Amorim wants to take the player to Old Trafford, with the new Man Utd coach having been in charge of Gyokeres at Sporting CP.

However, in a fresh update, Coventry Live explains how reports from Spain have stated that it’s PSG who are now pushing the hardest to secure his signature.

It’s unclear whether the French giants will be willing to meet his release clause, but Sporting CP are sure to demand a huge fee before they consider selling their star man.

Coventry City are sure to benefit from Viktor Gyokeres sale at some point

It seems inevitable that Gyokeres will leave Sporting CP at some point, and, when he does, Coventry will receive more money, so it was great business to include a sell-on.

Frank Lampard and Viktor Gyokeres

This isn’t something the Sky Blues can budget for, but it will be a bonus when it does arrive, and fans will obviously hope those funds can be put towards improving Frank Lampard's squad.

All connected to the club will be delighted to see how well the former player is doing, as he gave everything when in a Coventry shirt, and the club received a big fee as Gyokeres moved on to progress his career.
