Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat against Juventus in the Champions League.
Things are not going to plan for Pep Guardiola’s side. Nothing is really working for him, and the defeat in Turin has made it just one win in 10 for the defending Premier League champions.
City are not used to this at all. They have been dominating the game for many years, so their form right now is a real shock to the system.
Micah Richards has now had his say on his old club’s miserable run of results.
Micah Richards agrees with what Jamie Carragher said about Manchester City
Manchester City have not looked good for well over a month now.
Guardiola’s record over the last 10 games in all competitions reads one win, two draws and a staggering seven defeats. They have scored 12 and conceded 23 goals in that period.
Things are getting worse and worse for City – not just in the Premier League but in the Champions League as well, where they are currently 22nd in the table.
Jamie Carragher claimed a few weeks ago that Guardiola’s side were in a ‘crisis’. Richards disagreed with him then, but he has changed his mind now.
The pundit has admitted that his old side are definitely in a ‘crisis’ following their 2-0 defeat against Juventus on Wednesday night.
He said on CBS Sports: “Yeah, there’s a crisis. In fairness to Jamie, he said there was a crisis probably about three weeks ago now. I didn’t think there was at the time, I just thought we were going through a little bit of a blip. But now, he’s been proven right.
“We have to address it. It’s one win in 10 now. They have not got the answers. They look like they have all the possession but not got the cutting edge in front of goal.
“Going back to the first half with Haaland’s chance, a little dink, normally that goes in. But just on the transition, and I’ve said all season, it was the same last season and at times we could recover from it, but this season they can’t recover.”
What Manchester City need to do to solve their issues
Carragher suggested after the game in Turin that Guardiola must be wondering why he signed a new contract at Manchester City.
The Spaniard hasn’t had any joy since he penned his new deal, but if anyone can turn it around at the Etihad, it’s Guardiola.
Rodri’s absence is arguably the biggest reason why Manchester City are not functioning as well as they used to. The Ballon d’Or winner is not expected to be back anytime soon.
The best thing City can do now is dive into the January transfer window to sign someone who can effectively fill in for Rodri until he’s back.
The likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi have been linked with a move to the Etihad. Either player would be a great signing in the winter window.
