Even under new head coach Ruben Amorim, Manchester United are not having the best of times.
Things were bleak for United under Erik ten Hag, and it did not come as a surprise to anyone when the Premier League giants decided to part company with the Dutchman.
Amorim came in from Sporting Lisbon, and United fans were very confident. The Old Trafford faithful expected to see the team turn on the style under the Portuguese boss.
However, it has been far from a great start for Amorom. After initial good signs, United are back struggling. They lost against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in their last two Premier League games.
Lisandro Martinez started against Forest and had a bad game. The £120,000-a-week (Spotac) defender was at fault for two of the goals that the Red Devils conceded.
Martinez failed to stop Nikola Milenkovic from scoring a header and was later caught out for Chris Wood’s goal.
Gabriel Agbonlahor slams Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez
Former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT Gabriel Agbonlahor has not been impressed at all with Martinez this season. The defender has played 19 matches for the Red Devils this campaign.
Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT (6:40am, December 12, 2024): “I feel Rashford gets a lot of stick. Yes, he has not been at his best, but what about Martinez at the back?
“What about him? He’s getting beat on corners for set pieces. He doesn’t look comfortable. They talk about the butcher. I think he is terrible.”
Manchester United could sell Lisandro Martinez
Martinez has been on the books of United since 2022 when he joined from Ajax. The Argentina international did not start his time at Old Trafford on a positive note, but he soon established himself as one of the best and most important players under Ten Hag.
There have been injury problems for Martinez at United, but there is no denying the 26-year-old is one of the best defenders that head coach Amorim has at his disposal.
However, there is speculation that United could sell Martinez, who won the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and the Copa America in 2021 and 2024 with Argentina.
Earlier this week, talkSPORT reported that United could cash in on Martinez. Real Madrid are showing interest in the defender, and the Red Devils could sell him if they get a good offer.
