Our predicted Manchester United line-up for this evening’s Europa League clash away to Viktoria Plzen.
The Red Devils return to European action in hopes of washing away their remaining sorrows following the weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest. It came only three days after Ruben Amorim sustained the first loss of his tenure at the hands of Arsenal, during which both goals came from set-pieces.
United sit 12th-placed in the new-look UEL standings heading into tonight’s fixture, with their opponents holding an almost identical record in 13th – the sides have two wins and three draws and are yet to sustain defeat. The Reds have scored one more goal (10), though both have conceded seven.
In terms of the options Amorim has at his disposal, he welcomed three returnees to training this week in the forms of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Toby Collyer. The only absentee was, expectedly, Luke Shaw.
The boss confirmed that Tyrell Malacia, who joined him at his pre-match press conference yesterday, will be deployed from the off at the Doosan Arena. He has made only two starts since returning from his lengthy injury setback, which caused him to miss the entirety of the 2023/2024 campaign, and has had his game time managed cautiously, having featured for only 45 minutes in each of his three appearances thus far.

While fans would much rather see Amad Diallo given the nod amidst his scintillating form, Amorim has already proven he won’t shy away from heavy rotation when needed. Amad has started four of the last five league games and may benefit from an off-the-bench cameo tonight in preparation for Sunday’s high-stakes Manchester derby.

Marcus Rashford has started twice under Amorim, scoring three goals in total across both outings against Ipswich Town and Everton, respectively. He played a combined 62 minutes in the previous two game-weeks, suggesting he may be in line to return to the starting 11 now.
