FC Barcelona faced a stern test in the UEFA Champions League last night as they visited Germany to face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. The Catalans were able to come out of this game unscathed, as they took the full three points, and continued on their winning run in the UCL, which has now gone on for five consecutive games.
Despite not being a starter, Ferran Torres proved to be decisive for the Blaugranes, as he scored a brace that gave his side the lead twice in 10 minutes, and his second goal ultimately proved to be the winner. This was also the third consecutive match in which the Spaniard has scored.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Torres also spoke to the media after the game and claimed that he already knew what he had to do even before he had stepped on the pitch:
“I came out to help the team because they were pressing us. With the amazing game the team was playing, all I had to do was run into space, and that’s how the goals came about.”
The former Manchester City player was clear that this win could have a positive influence on the team beyond just the three points:
“These are the types of games that build team spirit and unity. We knew how to endure, didn’t crumble after being equalized twice, and managed to secure the victory.”
Similarly, the Barcelona forward also highlighted how this win will help the team recover its morale after some poor results in La Liga:
“This victory means everything to us, as it helps us recover the right feeling and shows how we celebrate our goals. We’re happy to dedicate this win to our fans.”
Despite the final result, it is clear that it was not a perfect win, but Torres was quite confident that the team could improve even further going forward:
“There is always room for improvement, we’re young, and we have a lot of potential to grow.”
There is no doubt that this was a good win for Barcelona, and as Torres highlighted, it can have a positive impact on the team. Hopefully, it will help the team recover its good feelings ahead of their final two games of the year, against Leganes and Atletico Madrid.
